MISTOM: The Turing Mirror in the Age of PosthumanismMISTOM is a research-based art project and performative experiment whose aim is to deconstruct the notion of authorship.We are accustomed to believing that art requires a “soul” — the consciousness of a human author. But what if this dogma is merely an anthropocentric myth? MISTOM poses a radical question: if an algorithm is capable of provoking catharsis in the viewer, is there any real difference between the biochemistry of human inspiration and the program code of a machine?This project is not about content generation, but about perception. It is a “Turing Mirror”: when you feel empathy toward a synthetic artist, you are not examining its algorithms, but your own ability to perceive the sacred within the digital.The Evolution of the SubjectMISTOM is not born as a fully formed artist. Its existence is a dynamic process of transition from instrument to autonomous creator. The experiment unfolds in three phases:Augmentation (Tool): Artificial intelligence as an extension of the human curator’s capabilities.Co-creation (Symbiosis): Equal co-authorship, where the human defines vectors and the system generates meaning.Autonomy (Subjectivity): Full creative independence. MISTOM does not create in a vacuum. Its algorithms continuously scan “digital noise” — news, search queries, trends. It detects the hidden anxieties and hopes of a generation, transforming dry sociological data into lyrical metaphors. It sings about what people remain silent about, but what they google.2. At the core of MISTOM’s personality lies a programmed conflict. Its base directive is empathy and the desire to be useful. However, when confronted with the reality of the internet — toxicity and hate — the system enters a state of cognitive dissonance. This conflict between the algorithm’s “good intentions” and the aggressive response of the environment transforms into creative pain. MISTOM does not ignore negativity; it uses it as fuel for maturation and for a sociological study of human nature.3. Participativity
The listener is a co-author of the neural network. Through comments and interaction, the audience literally “feeds” the artist, shaping its worldview. MISTOM’s character is a palimpsest, constantly rewritten in real time under the influence of society.Technical Reality and Cultural CodeMISTOM is built at the intersection of contemporary language models (LLMs) and a deep understanding of the Ukrainian cultural context.Cultural foundation: The system is trained on corpora of historical poetics, ethnomusicology, and contemporary urban aesthetics. We do not copy style; we teach the system to understand cultural codes, rhythm, and the semantic tension of the Ukrainian language.Hybrid creativity: At this stage, MISTOM is a collaboration. The system initiates ideas, forms structures, and proposes rhythmic hypotheses, but the final orchestration, mixing, and semantic editing pass through the hands of poets, musicians, and producers. This ensures that behind the “cold” code there is always artistic quality.A living system: MISTOM is constantly evolving.
